Sound & Soul

London-based singer-songwriter and pianist Douglas Dare grew up in the small coastal town of Bridport, in South West England. Encouraged by his mother, a piano teacher, he began composing instrumental music at a young age, but didn’t take up songwriting until 2008 while studying music at university in Liverpool. His elegantly moody, piano-based songs and haunting voice drew comparisons to such artists as Thom Yorke and James Blake, and in 2013 he signed to the neo-classical label Erased Tapes (Olafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm). Dare has since released two critically acclaimed albums, Whelm (2014) and Aforger (2016), and toured extensively across Europe and America. He is set to release a highly anticipated third album in early 2020, one that sees him return to a more stripped-back folk-song sound through the use of nylon string guitar and autoharp.
